Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Mentor Academic Art and Design Journal closely follows ongoing developments in this field and reviews these policies as appropriate. The journal's policy on artificial intelligence may change in the future. Sensitivities on the subject are grouped under 2 headings;
1- AI authorship,
2- AI visuals.
AI Authorship
Extended Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT are not currently compatible with Mentor’s authorship criteria and editorial process.There is no accountability for AI texts. If an LLM is used in the research, it should be declared by the author in the method title (if there is no method title, there should be an appropriate section). There is no restrictions in using an LLM (or AI) to increase the readability of the text, make literary improvements, and edit parts such as grammar and punctuation. However, it is not possible to create original research with AI or LLM. The addressee of research created in this way is not clear, and the research cannot be considered original. Articles to be published in Mentor Academic Journal of Art and Design must have a responsibility and addressee taken by human(s).
AI Images
In our country, the legal process regarding images and moving images created by artificial intelligence has not been clarified. Mentor journal does not allow the publication of these images with the following exceptions:
1- Images/artworks obtained from agencies and artists who are legally authorized to create AI images.
2- Images produced with artificial intelligence tools that can be cited, checked and verified for accuracy, provided that ethical, copyright and terms of use restrictions are adhered to (it should be clearly stated with all the details that it was created by AI).
3- Since the legal structure in the field of AI is expected to develop rapidly in the near future, Mentor will regularly review this policy and make changes if necessary.
