In this study, the problems and future perspectives of interior architecture firms have been investigated. The aim of the research is to determine how businesses in the interior architecture sector perceive the factors identified as challenges and to identify their future-oriented visions. Within the scope of the research, a sampling method was employed to conduct a study targeting interior architecture firms. Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir cities with the potential to represent Turkey were selected. The study focused on firms registered under the NACE code 74.10.01, categorized as "Professional, Scientific, and Technical Activities," specifically under the heading "Activities of Interior Architects (Including Interior Decoration)," within the chambers of commerce and industry in these cities. In this context, surveys were conducted with the managers of 272 interior architecture firms: 198 in Istanbul, 54 in Ankara, and 20 in Izmir. Data collected through the questionnaire method were analyzed in detail based on participants' responses.
The most significant challenge in the interior architecture sector is the lack of expected professional competence among university graduates. Other key issues include the government’s insufficient inclusion of the sector in incentive and project support programs, interior architecture services being perceived as a luxury, the unclear public understanding of the profession’s definition, and firms lacking legal rights, such as signature authority. According to the research findings, while the majority of firms supported these findings, approximately 30% remained undecided on the issue. The future outlook of businesses is generally positive. Competitive strategies, technology integration, product and talent development, institutionalization, branding, and expansion into international markets have been emphasized as critical focus areas. Additionally, there is a strong consensus on the importance of increasing government support, strengthening industry collaboration, and expanding production capacity. Firms’ engagement in strategic planning and innovative approaches paints a promising picture for the sector’s future.
